Wild Thang Wins World's Ugliest Dog Contest in Upset!
After five tries, Wild Thang, an eight-year-old Pekingese, finally claimed the coveted (and slightly humorous) title of World's Ugliest Dog at the 2024 Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California! This wasn't Wild Thang's first shot at glory. This furry underdog had competed a whopping five times before this year's victory.
The competition, known for celebrating the unique charm of less-than-conventional canines, saw Wild Thang face off against seven other contenders. Interestingly, the majority of these participants were rescued pups, finding loving homes after spending time in shelters.
Wild Thang Takes the Top Prize
Wild Thang's perseverance, along with his undeniably unique features, earned him the top prize of $5,000 and a coveted spot on NBC's The Today Show. But the competition wasn't all about Wild Thang.
A Heartwarming Second Place Story
A heartwarming story unfolded in the form of Rome, a 14-year-old pug who rolled into the contest in a wheelchair. This was Rome's debut, and his spunk and determination earned him a well-deserved second place and a prize of $3,000.
This year's World's Ugliest Dog Contest proved once again that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and even levels of "ugliness." It's a celebration of the unconditional love between humans and their canine companions, regardless of appearances. Congratulations to Wild Thang and all the other unique pups who stole the show!
